Anyone wishing to deepen their knowledge of bonsai style and presentation can learn a great deal by studying professional examples. The Kokufu catalogues offer a solid and reliable reference for this.
The Kokufu-Ten Bonsai Catalogue is the official catalogue of Japan's largest and most prestigious bonsai exhibition, held at the Metropolitan Art Museum in Tokyo. The exhibition is organized by the Nippon Bonsai Association.
Every year, the most beautiful and refined bonsai from Japan are selected for the country's most important national exhibition, the Kokufu-ten. The trees are beautifully displayed to visitors from all over the world, carefully judged and photographed. Each edition is published as a luxury photobook featuring all the exhibited bonsai in full-color photography – with more than 200 bonsai per volume, and more than 250 displays in the more recent editions.
The Kokufu catalogues, published annually since 1934, document the evolution of Japanese bonsai art over the decades. For this reason, the series has become a valuable collector's item for anyone with a keen interest in the aesthetics and history of Japanese bonsai.
Bonsai Plaza has most issues in its collection starting from number 46 (1971). Please note: most issues are vintage and therefore not in mint condition.
