Even if you know the Kanji for a potter's name, they can be difficult to recognize in their various fonts or calligraphic styles.

The late potter Tojaku was born in Kyoto in 1935 and was one of the pioneers of modern small pots in Kansai.
He mastered a variety of techniques and created unique, meticulously crafted pieces with character and interest for 40 years. The pieces I have come across are all mame- and shohin-sized pots. Tojaku was also the teacher of the great shohin-pot maker, Wajaku.

Tojaku (real name: Hayashi Tadasu/Tadashi) started making bonsai pots around 1965-1970. He is particularly known for his beautifully detailed miniatures (Shohin and Mame pots), his hand-painted ( Sometsuke ) blue and white designs, and his unique pots with reliefs (such as the iconic pots with human faces on the legs, known as Jinmentsu ).
