Nitto Kasei plaseal E-189 epoxy filler for bonsai – 500 g
Nitto Kasei Plaseal E-189 is a two-component epoxy filler supplied as a 500 g set, consisting of 250 g base and 250 g hardener. It is a putty-type epoxy adhesive with reaction curing, water resistance and the ability to cure on damp surfaces and under water. These are the core technical properties of the material and the reason it is valued where a firm, shapeable and durable fill is required.
In bonsai, it is used as a two-component filler for deeper wounds, hollows and holes in the trunk where a stable, formed fill is needed. Because the material is putty-like rather than liquid, it can be kneaded thoroughly, worked into irregular spaces and shaped to the required contour. It is also suitable for more structural bonsai applications, including stone planting, fixing anchor points and securing wire or support elements, wherever a waterproof epoxy filler is useful. The practical value lies in the combination of body, adhesion, shape retention and durability.
For use on wounds or cavities, first remove all rotten, soft or loose material and clean the area thoroughly. Then take two equal parts of the components and mix them well in a 1:1 ratio until the colour is completely uniform. Once mixed, apply the filler to the prepared area and press firmly into place so that it makes full contact with the surrounding surface and fills the space properly. The exposed face can then be shaped as desired. The total processing time is approximately 30 minutes, so mixing, placing and shaping should be done methodically and without delay. In suitable cases, the cambium may gradually roll over the filled area over time.
What distinguishes Plaseal E-189 in practice is that it combines workability during application with firm, waterproof curing after placement. It can be shaped accurately, remains where it is placed and hardens as a stable mass. For the serious bonsai practitioner, this makes it a practical technical material where a repair requires depth, stability, controllable shaping and long-term reliability.
