For pruning and care of bonsai you better not use home garden or kitchen utensils. For this purpose, special tools have been developed in century long Eastern traditions. One could for example cut copper or aluminum wire with a side cutter. But as soon as you want to remove this same wire from your tree while onto a branch, the side cutter will damage the tree and the bark. That is why there are specific wite cutters for Bonsai, specially designed for this purpose. The same holds for the scissors that are used for pruning and cutting. For larger Bonsai larger versions of the tools are available, and for small Bonsai similarly shaped tools are available in a smaller version. For editing dead wood are special gouges and chisels are available. For repotting a Bonsai there are special rakes and repotting sticks. These are intended to untangle the roots of the tree. As a result, fresh ground surrounds all the roots such that the Bonsai can optimally grow again.
